Dr Rebecca Byrne and PhD candidates Konsita Kuswara, Andrea Fuller and Sarah Marshall attended the Nutrition and Nurture in Infancy and Childhood Conference in Grange-Over-Sands, England from 10 -12 June 2019. This was the tenth international conference organised by the Maternal and Infant Nutrition and Nurture Unit (MAINN), University of Central Lancashire. This was an intimate conference, with approximately 200 delegates representing over 20 countries and from a range of disciplines across policy, practice and research.
Rebecca, Konsita, Andrea and Sarah each presented on their current work related to early prevention of obesity in children 0-5 years. Each presenting for 30 minutes, here was plenty of opportunity to share details and receive questions from the audience. The conference abstracts will be published in the international journal Maternal and Child Nutrition - stay tuned.
There was a strong breastfeeding and early feeding focus, with keynote speakers speaking of the importance of the first days of life and supportive environments. The UK Baby Friendly Initiative and the Becoming Breastfeeding Friendly toolbox applied in Ghana were featured, as well the importance of infant sleep, with evidence summaries available online at Basis.
